But unless you export the DES key (or, if you have the DES key up front, you need to INJECT it) what will you get with just encrypting a random number? What are you trying to accomplish?
(Please note that many security vulnerability exist because of incorrect protocols, so you have to know what do you want to do with this - only then you can evaluate if this is the right thing to do.)
