Re: Browsing Default Web Site (SharePoint) with IIS Problem

Unfortunately we don't know what you did when you "reset" your permissions. Nor should a dcpromo have actually removed your machine from the domain (it should just have been a member server in the domain post dcpromo).

Certain inbuilt IIS accounts would have become domain accounts when you dcpromo-ed the box, but wouldn't have returned to being local accounts when you ran the second dcpromo.

Since we're not sure what state your box is currently in, you may wish to backup your Sharepoint database. Uninstall sharepoint and IIS. Install IIS, install Sharepoint, and then restore your Sharepoint database.

Cheers

I recently added the domain controller role to my IIS server so it could be our 'backup domain controller'. Long story short, I ran into major problems and had to demote this server. Demoting it forced the server back into a workgroup so it had to then be rejoined to the domain. Fine.

On my default web site, which happens to be a SharePoint 2003 site, I had to reset all the permissions on both IIS and SQL in order to get the site back up and running. Fine.

Only now, whenever I attempt to browse the site with IIS Manager a popup appears attempting to download 'localserver' as a file. On any client the same thing occurs but in this case its treating the web server name as the 'file' to download.

This is clearly a security issue, but 12 hours later, I have not been able to fix this.

I should mention that I'm also still getting the following error whenever I try to post back to this server:
The page you are looking for cannot be displayed because an invalid method (HTTP verb) was used to attempt access.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please try the following:

a.. Contact the Web site administrator if you believe that this request should be allowed.
b.. Make sure that the Web site address displayed in the address bar of your browser is spelled and formatted correctly.
HTTP Error 405 - The HTTP verb used to access this page is not allowed.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Ross
