RE: HELP-Domain Controller reboot causes session loss

My web servers that are running IIS6.0 are in located in an AD site with 2
domain controllers each DC is a DNS and GC server, and the webserves have
both servers configured for DNS DC1 is primary and DC2 is secondary. My
therory is because the connection is comming through IIS and its IIS that
needs to talk on behalf of the client making the request, IIS is now acting
similar to a proxy server, and it is keeping a persistent connection open to
one of the DC is the same site as the webserver, if this DC goes offline, i
dont think IIS is able to smart enough to look for a new DC, until the IIS or
other webservices are restarted. I think there may be no way around this
issue.

i like to hear your thoughts on this if you agree or disagree
thanks

No Skip- We haven't solved this yet. I believe that our developers will be
moving the session info to the SQL database (from the IIS session) and maybe
that will solve our issue.
I'll keep you posted.

Hi JJ

Did you ever find out what was causing your issue? i am experiencing the
same exact problem, but have yet to find the answer.

Thanks for any info on this

Please forgive my IIS ignorance when reading this question....I am a Windows
Admin and we have developers that have developed an application with asp.net.

They have front end web servers that tie to a back-end database (SQL).

All servers (including domain controllers) are windows 2003.

I have redundant domain controllers (4) and redundant global catalog. When I
rebo0t a single domain controller, several of the end users loose their
connection to the web session to this app. If the user closes the session and
comes back in, they can connect again even if the DC is still offline.

It appears to me that somehow the session authentication has the DC info in
it. We are using Windows Integrated Authentication on these.

Does anyone know what I can look at to solve this problem so that we can do
DC maintenance without taking people offline on the app?

Thanks for any insight!
