It's not possible to set up a site for SSL without a server certificate.
SSL rules wouldn't allow it, and neither would IIS.
So, your claim about IIS5 supporting https without a server certificate is
100% impossible.
Easiest way to do this is to download IIS6 Resource Kit and run SelfSSL:
