Cannot Export SSL Cert to New IIS 5 Server???

We moved our IIS 5 implmentation to some nicer hardware
this weekend, but I can't figure out how to get the SSL
setup copied over. We're using a Verisign cert for which I
have the original requests and .cer's. I'm not using MS
Certificate Server (should I be?).

I've tried

- copying the .cer's directly over and right-click
installing
- exporting \\old into .pfx files and right-click
installing

but none of this causes them to chow up in the IIS MMC
when I try to "Assign an existing certificate". How do I
get that certificate moved over?

I've been all over Verisign, experts-exchange, etc., and
have only found similar questions inadequately answered or
refences to IIS articles that no longer exist. As I browse
this forum, I'm surprised at the high percentage of
questions regarding SSL administration, and no longer feel
so lonely. Some IIS guru, save us!

Thanks for your help!
