I'm running Win2000 Server (SP3).
I'm IT engineer and sometimes I do service other clients. I had exactly the
same behavio on one of my clients servers. There was no other way to make
IIS working than reinstaling the system (wiping out the whole drive
partition, but it is very time consuming and I'm trying to find another
solution).
Here are the possibilities that I'm considering:
 - virus, worm, etc.
- glitch in the Windows update (I notice everything worked fine until I did
a system update (running the link from Controll Panel)
- corupted registry
- corupted IIS database file (I'm not very familiar with this one tough).
