Here is a tip that most people including me forget from time to time.
When setting it up to not allow anonymous users, I click ok without entering
anything, and it goes in fine. Then, after a few hours, of beating my brain
in, I figure out that IE is just passing my username and password through
the browser (which is the same as the servers). I try it from another
machine with different username and password, and it works.
That might give you a clue to your problem.
