What happens if you uncheck "Allow IIS to control password" on the Anonymous
User account, physically synchronize the account and password (i.e. go to
the User Control Panel and set the IUSR password to something you know, and
go do the same in IIS, or you can create another test user account, set it
as Anonymous User in IIS, and physically ACL the files to thes test user
account).
You can also search MSDN for KB articles related to "synchronizing the
Anonymous user account (IUSR) in IIS".

It seems it started prompting for a username/pass to access the default web page. As far as I am aware, no settings have been changed from their defaults whatsoever. I have checked and rechecked to ensure NTFS folder permissions are'nt causeing the error, and of course have ensured that Anonymous Access is still checked. Next, I completely uninstalled IIS, and re- installed it...same problem. I keep coming back to the NTFS permissions on the IIS folder, but cannot see anything wrong. Please, any help appreciated!, as I am running out of hair to pull out! Intel PIII 650 256MB RAM Win XP Pro 2002 SP1
