I have one domain with three W2K servers. Two of the servers are domain
controllers. One of the domain controllers is my file server. I have the
third server configured as a member server running Exchange and IIS.
On my file server/DC I have a shared directory containing user home folders.
Share level permissions on the user home folders share are authenticated
users "full control". NTFS permissions on the individual user home folders
are Domain Administrators "full control" the individual user "full control".
I have created a virtual directory path in IIS to this share. I have
created a normal user account in the domain, which I use in the Network
Directory Security Credentials dialogue box (this accounts password never
expires so I can change it when convenient to me). Under Authentication
Methods, only Integrated Windows authentication is allowed.
Tele-commuter users connect to the website to down load files to there home
computers. After doing their work they use OWA to email the files back.
When a user connects to the website they are prompted to enter a valid
username/password. This will get them into the top of the share holding
user home folders. They can see the list of everyone's folders but can only
access the folder belonging to the user account I entered in the Network
Directory Security Credentials dialogue box. When a user selects their
folder they get a logon dialog box, they enter their domain user credentials
and are denied access to there home folders. After three attempts they get
a "You are not authorized to view this page" message. If I use the
administrator account in the Network Directory Security Credentials dialogue
box, everyone has access to everything. I need a solution that allows my
users to use their domain accounts to access their home folders thru the IIS
server while continuing to control access to personal information.
I have considered mapping each uses home folder individually, but I would
need to re-enter the users personal password in the Network Directory
Security Credentials dialogue box each time domain passwords change (every
90 days).
