I dont think your problem is with the NTFS permissions. Double check the
permissions set for the directory in IIS via the Home Directory tab of the
IIS mmc snapin and make sure you have the "write" permission checkbox
checked. That should work. In my case excel reports an error that the save
operation could not be completed. nothing about read only just a vague
error, but saves the file anyway.
