This depends on your cert provider and is a question for them or their web
site. Verisign and probably most others will let you cancel and request a
new cert via a web page, but the host name on the cert has to be the same as
on the old cert. To change the host name on the cert requires purchasing a
new cert and you probably wouldn't be entitled to a refund on the other
cert.
We use certs from www.entrust.net, it's like a third of the price of
Verisign, though they're owned by Verisign.
