Basic & Challenge Response keeps prompting Mac Users to logIn

Our Mac Users can access a web site that has NT Challenge Response and Basic
Authenication, but they are regularly prompted to re-enter their UserID and
password for example if they refresh the page, or link to another page in
the same directory (i.e. same security)

We've found this to be the case internally, but also with a site hosted with
an external ISP.

Why is this? PC users only have to log in once.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but the site in question is in a Frame,
with three pages (all in the same directory)

Any help appreciated - it's driving the Mac users nuts.
