It depends. You're comparing a computationally intensive task (encryption and
decryption) and a network intensive task (the transfer of the data).
Depending on how slow your processor is, or how fast your network is, yes,
it's possible. Try accessing the resource from the same machine that it's
hosted on - that will get rid of much of the network bottleneck, and you can
see how much is down to sheer processor effort.
