I have a client that has a stand-alone Windows 2000 Pro
system. They have a web site published on this system
that employees can access thru IE 5.X on home systems.
The system has been running fine for months then all of a
sudden (according to the users) it is no longer letting
them log into the site.

Troubleshooting has found that by changing the security
level of the default web site I can get them in.
However, if Anonymous is selected anyone can access the
site no questions asked. If basic authentication is
selected then the SITE, REALM, USERNAME, and PASSWORD
dialog box pops up and the users can authenticate and
gain access to the site, but it's clear text. Not very
secure. If Integrated Windows Authentication is selected
then the USERNAME, PASSWORD, and DOMAIN dialog box pops
up. If I set the default web site to use this level of
security and the user types in his/her credentials it
does NOT give them access. They used to be able to type
in their USERNAME, PASSWORD, and leave DOMAIN blank and
have it work. Now it does not.

I'm not sure where to go from here. I've checked,
rechecked, and reset usernames, passwords, and
permissions, but I'm unable to get any user past the use
Integrated Windows Authentication logon screen.

Please help I'm going NUTS !!

Steve
