I assume you can view those files on the remote computer from windows
explorer when sitting at the keyboard of your web server. If not, check the
firewall logs in your DMZ to see if anything [like authentication] is being
blocked. Also, try enabling security auditing of file access failure on the
domain and check the security logs on the domain controllers to see what
exactly is failing. It is possible that whatever login ID you are granting
permissions to, it may not be the right ID.
The way I would do it, assuming the iis server is not joined to the windows
domain, is to configure IIS so that it does not control the iusr anonymous
browsing password, set the password on this ID yourself, then add an
identical ID and password locally to the server with the jpg, and log into
your web server using the iusr ID and confirm that you can browse to the
file in windows explorer.
