Does SSL have to apply to all sites on a server?

For the foreseeable future, I expect to have only one server for multiple
web sites. Some need SSL, some don't. It's also possible that only parts
of a web site may need SSL. They don't really need to be totally separate
sites with different domains. For example, they could all be
www.ucsf.edu/X, where X denotes the actual web site name. But if need be, I
could also set up the sites with separate IP addresses, although I suspect
this would be a real hassle, due to some internal organizational issues.
Can SSL be differentially applied to parts of an IIS server? Again, can
this be done by folder, by IP address, etc.?
