It will be painfully hard.
You can check PDF format specification (on Adobe site). But you must be
aware that Adobe software generates and handles some signatures in the way
different from specification. I.e. the specification is not always
correct. Many things we did were possible only using debugger (otherwise
there was no way to find out, how Acrobat calculates hashes). For example,
Distiller generates files which violate the specification. And you must be
able to handle them.
