The only reason i used the XMLWriter is because when looking in the Help and on MSDN, it was the only thing that came up for Base64!? I am not at all interested creating an XML string, so will use the Convert method instead ... shud simplify the code a bit!

One minor point however, ur argument doesn't quite explain why the BinHex version of the code DOES work!?? :P
