Common place to put data files for third party software

The current problem I have is that the third party
software that we installed on machines before, cannot be
installed the same way on Windows .NET Server 2003 (WS03).
This is due to the access rights it imposes on the Program
    Files folder.
Due to this, one has to be the ADMINISTRATOR to run the
product and work with it as the product needs to access a
sub directory under Program Files\My Product dir. For a
regular user, this access is denied.
Would some one know of a general/agreed and an acceptable
place to put this kind of directories other than under
Program Files. MS .NET puts all its Project files under %
SystemDrive%\My Documents (eg: C:\My Documents). Is this a
good place ? I am sure many 3rd party software vendors
    have the same problem.

Is there a place that installshield recommends in putting
these directories ? Or is there a way to avoid this
situation through installshield ? Please let me know.

    Thanks

    Sam
