Check that the users are not going through an proxy server for internal
resources.
You may need to create a proxy.pac file for this.
The untrusted domain will need to be treated as a local intranet machine and
bypass the proxy server.
The easiest test is to go to a machine that failes and reconfigure their
proxy support for the LAN. Disable all proxy configuration and then exit IE.
Then load IE back up.
Also IE is the only browser that supports NTLM.
