if they forget their password - the usual procedure is to send them a random new one via mail (maybe combined with a secret question/answer)
Did you have a look at the new security controls in ASP.NET 2.0 - the implement all these out of the box??

Sure ! That's a really good idea.
But you should think about a procedure for people who forget password
!
Like sent by mail a special procedure or something like that.

and if you look at how apps typically handle this - you have to type
in your old password to change it. which makes total sense....

well - then you have to live with that - or assume that noOr show update details but not the password and have a specefic link
password==no password change
"change password"...
