Passing Credentials to a basic authentication share

I'm not sure how to go about this, but here I go. I have a link in a
dot net site that points to a virture directory that is using basic
authentication. How can I pass the username and password (that I have
captured on a login page) to this link so to avoid the double login
that I get?
My login page prompts for username and password, then verifies them
against active directory. After success in logging in, the user can see
a link to a virtual directory. If they click on it, they get another
prompt. THis is the one I'm trying to stop. How can I pass the
credentials so the user does not have to log in again?
