Authenitcation, Authorization, and Personalization

My company has been using Site Server 3.0 with Personalization and
Membership to both control access to our ASP based site and to provide user
attributes to all of our ASP pages based on the logged in user. This was
all pretty automatic in P&M and ASP. We are looking to move away from this
and implement a solution in .Net. We've already migrated some of our site
to ASP.Net but are not doing the whole thing immediately. So we need a
solution that can handle authentication and authorization for both ASP and
ASP.Net pages and can provide a means of easily knowing who the current user
is on every single page so we can somehow access the long list of attributes
about the give user (as we do today through P&M in ASP). Has anyone out
there faced a similar situation or solved this problem already? Can anyone
suggest how we might accomplish this or at least get started?
