Thanks for the idea Ken. Big DUH here - of course I don't have to read
all records in at once on the client. I can see that the Next button
could be used, say, five times or ten times without a burden of
postback, and then if they click the Last button it's time for a trip to
the server.
Maybe even storing ten records with five being the first five and five
being the last five would be a good solution. Then all buttons would
work until they hit the middle of the RS.
