Custom Authorization Provider instead of azmanprovider

Can anyone recommend a resource (article, etc) that implements a
custom authorizatio provider with the Authorization and Profile Block
from MS (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnpag/html/authpro_ch_03.asp)

I'm running Wk2 Pro, and the AzManProvider cannot compile without 2003
Server. I just want to implement a quick proof of concept (getting
roles from a database, not Active Directory).
