Take a look at the documentation for the System.Drawing.Imaging namespace and that should get you started. You can easily make a thumbnail by loading an image and resizing it to a thumbnail size and then saving it in a temp directory or similar to show the thumbnail.

I am interested in some ideas with building a application like this :

It doesn't have to be so complicated because i don't sell photographs.
It's very cool software/page but they want to much for it so i have decided
that i'll make my own but i need some ideas. First thing is :
I'll need some way to automatically create thumbnail on the fly for the
users which logs on the page. Waht i want is to tell the software/page that
i have these folders which i want to show. The software should then create
the thumbnails for the user when he/she logs on. I know that fotoweb uses
some kind of cache. I could make a admin site were i could add a new archive
then the page should do the rest.
Next thing will be to make somekind of user rigts as they have in fotoweb
were i can check what evry user has the rigths to do. For example a user can
be able to view a archive but not download the full res. file. Those kind of
stuff.
Another thing whic is cool on fotoweb is the function for sellecting
different pictures then be able to download them as zip. i suppose that
should be able with asp.net too ? Does anybody have any code examples ?
There are alot of functions whic can be implemented for example the
possibility to send the selected files to a ftp server.
I just need some ideas or code examples on some of the functions that i have
talked about. Comments or ideas are very welcome.
PLEASE let me know if you think i can do all this on another way. I am just
desperate when i heard that the price on fotoweb was 1300 $.
