FTPS

I am trying to setup a FTPS server and am wondering if I need to
purchase a SSL certificate to do so or if I can someone just create
one to use? I plan on using ProFTPd. I know SSH would be best but
thats not an option as the client is using a software application that
only supports FTP and FTPS. Thanks!
