There's lots of ways. A lot depends on whether you want to have the same IP
address on both NICs in each box. If so, I'd recommend you read up on
iproute2 for Linux IIRC the appropriate technology for the Alpha boxes is
called 'netrain'. Alternatively, you could use a hearbeat to control a
script which would flip IPs / activate&deactivate NICs.
