it doesn't matter how many companies are using it nor how many computers
using this technology are manufactured, it matters if it's documented
and if you can access this documentation.
with proprietary technology you can't create your own
version/implementation of it. if this is reasonable or not (regarding to
market size or whatever) is different story at all.
