You are correct in parts, if u are not interessted in research for
security/unsecurity the conferences that i spoken can't help much...
because there we will not present "cake revenue"... ;-)
About implement the soluctions, it isn't hard (several are soluctions
in nowsday)... for example StackGuard (Immunix), systrace like, was
presented in Usenix.. =]
