Well, why else would they contribute? You might wanna consider that
the CCIA is dominated by Sun and Oracle, and therefore have more than
a passing interest in bashing Microsoft. I'm wondering if the other
members approve of their comments. See:

As for payback, you might wanna look at the table at:

which lists contributions by major communications amd electronics
companies (including "soft" money) for 2000.
Interestingly, in 2004, Microsoft has so far donated the bulk of their
contributions to the Democrats. They usually ride the fence with
50/50.
