Yes and no. That is, I think your parenthetical comment is
deeply important; at the same time, I'm wary of reinforcing
decision-makers' bad habits of muddling Windows vs. Unix,
client vs. server, desktop vs. server, and so on. I take it
you're generally suspicious of ever having a browser or e-mail
client or other end-user application running on a "server". I
can understand that, and often advise the same. On the other
hand, I'm happy to move anything I can automate--even a
browser-mediated process, say--to a centrally-adminstered host.
If you're willing to say a few more words on these issues, you
have my attention.
