don't start this debate again since it will surely lead us nowhere.
and I find iptables to be simpler to use than ipchains yet more powerful.

when it comes to remote root exploitation in the default installation yes,
otherwise (according to securityfocus.com) slackware linux (which isn't
even trying to be the most secure OS) has had less security bugs than
openBSD through at least the last six releases of the both O/S.
quite interesting don't you agree? :)
