basic settying up of ssh keys. What am I doing wrong.

Hi ,
I have two machines. A. B. and I am logged into machine B as user Tom
There is also a user Tom on machine A.
On machine A i delete the contents of ~/.ssh
On machine B i delete the contents of ~/.ssh
While on B logged in as Tom i
ssh-keygen -t dsa
.
