I SSH into an AIX 5.3 machine using a PuTTY 0.59 client and it pauses
during the login. I login in another window, break out of the paused
login and a ps shows the other one is paused in xauth. The command
running is
xauth -q -
which when I run it on the command-line results in an interactive
prompt in xauth. I assume this is the X11 forwarding that is doing
this. How do I fix it? (I would like to keep the X11 forwarding.)
ssh -v
OpenSSH_4.3p2-hpn, OpenSSL 0.9.7l 28 Sep 2006

Have a look at the .Xauthority file, it may have wrong permission or xauth can not build a new one due to directory permissions. If one there you can delete it and ssh will build a new one.
Another reason I can imaging is a DNS timeout in reversed lookup.
