Actually, I just checked my new (Belkin) router and has the first 3
numbers hard-coded as well, just like you. What a shame.
Perhaps newer devices are smarter and more flexible?
Well I used to do this on my old cheap Billion modem/router. It allowed
me to forward any of my public ports to any IP address + port (and the
IP address could be on the WAN or the LAN side). I had used this
function to on-forward a ssh connection where the environment I was in
did not allow connections out on low-order system ports (yes, that is
obviously a futile policy). I assumed that all home routers could do
this but I now see that it may not be so commonplace.
