Now that we've determined that you are using your main XP machine as a
router between your internal LAN and your USB-connected ADSL
modem.... yes it can.
You may also want to investigate this In case you've horked up your xp
winsock.

And this for lots of firewall goodies. It's possible that disabling
the firewall horked up your routing as well.
