    "Dead" -- app fires up, but there's no UI at all. Only way to kill it
    was with a task manager kill (I use taskinfo2003).

    The good news:

    * So far, the dev snapshots are working great! I'll give it through the
    end of Monday (regular work day) before it will feel safe to say I
    can't replicate the bug any more.

    * Whatever was (reliably) causing my dev snapshot startup problem is no
    longer there. The version that died for me on the 23rd is fine now. On
    the 23rd, reboots etc made no difference. Now, it is (so far) solid as
    a rock! Love it.
