**Just local file copy from XP pro r40 thinkpad notebook HDisk to
external USB HD with a putty terminal window open and ssh session
sitting there, with command prompt on remote machine. The xp copy from
notebook to usb hd is corrupted when putty in use. I have not seen
corruption over putty. putty logged into a red hat 9 4W smp system.

Here and there "PuTTy" text string inserted. The file is compressed so I
am not 100% sure but believe it is inserted. Will check again.

**No third party SW.
**Repeated the file transfer without putty running on the thinkpad and
the transfer was fine.

**This was a rough one, I had two PuTTy sessions on XP, with WinSCP
doing a few small (1MB) file transfers (was checking some vpn
throughputs) with Cisco VPN active (has Winscp and putty sessions over
it) as well as an ATT VPN active to my other work location that had no
putty/winscp sessions on it (just email etc). The putty sessions went
through cisco vpn to same machine on the other end, then I telnet'd out
on one and other stayed on the original machine - redhat 9

Eventually the machine locked up after a few low virtual memory
warnings, rebooting I lost all network connectivity (ethernet, wireless
etc..) After 3 attempts I think XP figured something was messed in the
registry and went back to older copy and booted ok. I removed the cisco
vpn for now and stopped using putty. I have cygwin/xfree 86 on the same
notebook and have had multiple ssh sessions running fine w/cisco vpn.
Just didnt like the small font, so switched to putty.
