    That's disturbing, if so!

How are you transferring files? Does this transfer involve one of the
PuTTY tools at all? (It sounds local.) If so, are you using port-
forwarding, PSCP/PSFTP, or some other method?

(We've had occasional reports of corruption during port-forwarding --
    http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/wishlist/portfwd-corrupt.html
-- but haven't reproduced it or had enough information to localise the
problem properly, or even necessarily to PuTTY IIRC.)

You say you're seeing "putty" text strings in the transferred files. Are
they inserted into the files, do they replace some of the file contents,
or something else? Are they as you've capitalised them, "PuTTY", or
something else? Are they accompanied by anything else characteristic,
    such as newlines?

(The most common mechanism for the string "PuTTY" to turn up where it's
not wanted is when the server sends ^E during a terminal session -- see
    <http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/faq.html#faq-puttyputty>.
But I can't think of any reasonable mechanism for that to end up in
files on disc, unless you're using some third-party Z-Modem add-on or
    something like that.)

Not heard about anything like this, either.
