I did exactly what you suggested, i.e. I put my own key in my own
account and tried to ssh to my own machine, it worked. So then i
thought maybe the issue is with the key present at the remote machine.
I re-sent my public key ( which i just verifired is not corrupted) to
the professor to reinsert in the authorized_key section. He did that -
and removed the old key , just to make sure. Even now if I do the ssh
-v it gives exactly the same error that after offering public key it
resorts to password authentication!!!
I really appreciate your help, but i am still at square one and would
really appreciate any other debugging/troublwshooting techniques that i
can apply.
