Thanks for the help. I'm quite new to all this and have learnt a lot
over the past two days!
I'm afraid that "ssh user@host 'cat > foo' < file" didn't work either -
it simply outputs the contents of the file to STDOUT
Path settings and versions are as follows (can't see anything obviously
wrong here):
Local
$PATH /usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games
scp /usr/bin/scp /usr/share/man/man1/scp.1.gz
ssh OpenSSH_3.4p1 Debian 1:3.4p1-1.woody.3, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0,
OpenSSL 0x0090603f
Remote
$PATH /bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/games:/usr/X11R6/bin
scp /usr/bin/scp /usr/share/man/man1/scp.1.gz
ssh OpenSSH_3.1p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090703f
