i can run x-apps from yellowdoglinx from the same machine as macosx
<different partition>so i know the server is working properly

i tried port 1234, 443...all the same error
Bind to port XXXX on 0.0.0.0.0 failed: Address already in use
ah ha, it wants to bind to 0.0.0.0...where is this set?
