tunnel smb: server load?

Hi,

sometimes I tunnel smb from the server to my machine. For this, I use

        ssh -l claus -L 139:some.destination.server.com:139

on my client machine.

Everything works fine, however, somebody told me that transferring many or
large files through the Samba tunnel would cause heavy CPU load (compared
to a direct connection to the Samba server), because it needs to be
encrypted and decrypted.

To this, I have some questions:

(1) Where is the most CPU load when files are copied, at the server or
client side?

(2) Is the CPU load significantly higher?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Claus
