I'm running Red Hat 7.0 (Linux 2.2.16-22). I haven't looked at the
package-managed version because there isn't one (at least not for version
7.0). One of these years I'll get a newer system in place, but I've been at
the "it ain't broke so don't fix it" stage for awhile now. This sftpd thing
has me annoyed though.
I got rid of all previous versions of ssh and sshd (used updatedb/locate to
find them). The new binaries are under /usr/local/ (where "make install"
usually puts stuff).
I want to be running the latest, most secure version of SSH, that's the
whole reason why I updated, so I don't really like the idea of going back to
a previous version. I'd rather have a secure SSH and live with a broken
sftp subsystem, but I understand your reasoning, in terms of
troubleshooting.
