The original rcp did not have encryption, host authentication, public key
authentication, cross-platform compilation, proper handling of connections
with background jobs running, or a plethora of other useful features. Those
are coming from our faithful OpenSSH developers, and we appreciate it.
I can see a bunch of reasons why adding a feature like automatically
creating target directory paths (like the 'mkdir -p' command) is potentially
useful, but also quite hazardous. It's a new feature that would have to be
integrated *very* carefully to avoid interesting behavior, like "what should
copying to target:/dir1/dir2/dir3/dir4/../../dir5 do if dir4 is a symlink to
/?"
