PuTTY finally hung again, but this time I saw it hang.

On my Win2K machine I have MS Outlook 2002 running all day (connected
to a MS Exchange server). Yesterday I needed to shutdown Outlook and I
restored the Outlook window on top of an already open PuTTY window. As
I terminated Outlook, the PuTTY window went white and then froze,
entering its unkillable state.

When Outlook is shut down, it does a final Send/Receive before
terminating the task. I've tried a couple of times to reproduce this,
but without success. A while back PuTTY froze as I opened MS Word 2002,
but again I haven't been able to reproduce this. Is this coincidence,
or is MS Office [2002] the fly in the ointment?

Just a little other info I've found on PuTTY hard-hangs:
o This happens with both SSH1 and SSH2
o Changing the SSH port number has no effect (not surprising)
o Once PuTTY has hang, attempting "psftp" yields:
        C:\Program Files\PuTTY>psftp -v <host>
        login as: root
        Server version: SSH-1.99-OpenSSH_3.7p1
        We claim version: SSH-2.0-PuTTY-Release-0.54
        Using SSH protocol version 2
and then "psftp" hangs with this message on the server:
        sshd[85]: [ID 800047 auth.crit] fatal: Timeout before
                  authentication for <Win2K_ip_addr>

I hope this helps.
