Certainly point to NIS as the culprit, doesn't it.
There is a patch ready to try. It will not apply to 3.7.x, but I would
appreciate it if you could test with a snapshot and the patch. If
possible, I would like to confirm that this fixes it and put the patch
in before 3.8p1 release (which is soon).
If this is absolutely not possible I can backport the patch to 3.7.1p2.
