ssh key authentication problems from cygwin to solaris

    Hello,

    I have been having problems getting RSA key authentication
    to work, and I believe that I am just doing something
    plain wrong.

    Here is the cast of characters:

    Bert - desktop box - Win2k, cygwin ssh client
            OpenSSH_3.6.1p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090702f

    Ernie - solaris server - intranet
            OpenSSH_3.4p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090605f

    Maria - debian linux server - extranet
            OpenSSH_3.4p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090603f

    If I generate keys on Bert, then propagate the public keys to ernie
    and maria, RSA authentication does not work.

    If I generate keys on Ernie, then propagate the private key to bert,
    and the public key to maria, RSA does not work.

    If I generate keys on Maria, then propagate the private key to bert,
    and the public key to ernie. RSA works from bert to maria, but not
    from bert to ernie.

    Short story, Bert and Ernie don't like each other. I think I am missing
    something basic here.

    But wait, there is a twist! This all used to work! Last week, one of
    the sysadmins changed my UID on me on ernie. All of the the sudden
    RSA from bert to ernie stopped working, but would work from bert to
    maria. Then he changed my UID back.

    Am I doing something wrong here?
