--no-dereference flag for scp?

Does anyone else find it odd that there is no --no-dereference flag
(-P) for scp as there is for cp? This can cause major problems when a
symlink recurses on itself creating an infinite loop of copying.

I realize there are various workarounds using tar or rsync, but in a
program as widely used as scp I just don't understand why this feature
isn't built in?

Thanks,
